The CNMA is now an official California state affiliate of the
American College of Nurse-Midwives (ACNM).

CNMA's goal is to promote the health and well-being of women and newborns within their families and communities through the development and support of the profession of midwifery as practiced by Certified Nurse-Midwives (CNMs) in the state of California. Joining with ACNM has increased our membership and will provide us with more resources and tools to accomplish more for CNMs in our State.

Keep an eye out for an email invitation to join CNMA's Google Groups listserve and check back here for ways in which you can help make our profession stronger!  If you are a current member and have not received an invitation to join our listserve, please send us an email at cnmamidwives@gmail.com.

*Affiliate PAC Challenge

The ACNM Midwives-Political Action Committee (PAC) has set a 2011 goal of raising $75,000 to help move some key midwifery legislation forward. We were so proud to have raised $32,000 at the ACNM Meeting in SanAntonio this year, thanks to the generosity of many midwives.

Here’s the challenge.  If every affiliate would donate $1000 to the Midwives-PAC, we would reach our goal!  If $1000 is out of reach, perhaps $500?  $200? The affiliate who has donated the most (collectively), and the affiliate who has the highest percentage of members who give, will win a fabulous prize!  The two winners will be announced at the 2012 Midwives-PAC Rally at the Annual Meeting. California could really win this challenge if we all just give a little!

Your donation, from now until the end of the year, will be applied to the Affilate Challenge.  The money donated will go toward legislators who hold leadership positions on key committees, such as the House Ways and Means Committee, and the House Energy and Commerce Committee, where HR 2141, the MOMs 21 Act has been referred. ACNM also plans to introduce a hospital privileging bill in the next month, which would require due process when advanced practice nurses are applying for privileges.  These are just two examples of how your dollars will be put to work.
